From when does the deadline to apply for a residence card for British citizens in Spain start?
British citizens will be able to start processing and applying for their new card as of July 6, 2020. Thus, this residence document will be issued according to the model of a residence permit for third-country nationals and should indicate that it has been issued from pursuant to article 18.4 of the Withdrawal Agreement.
What should I do if I already have a residence card in Spain (“Certificado de Registro de ciudadano de la UE en España)?
If you are a British citizen, you have your temporary EU Registration Certificate (paper or green card) or you have been residing in Spain for five years and you have already got the Permanent EU Registration Certificate, you can personally request, before the police agencies to establish the issuance of the document of residence that, after verifying the duration of residence, said card will be issued.

What should I do if I do NOT have a residence card in Spain (“Certificado de Registro de ciudadano de la UE en España)?
If you are a British citizen but do not have an EU Registration Certificate, you can apply personally or through a legal representative for this new card or residence document, at the immigration office of the province where you live or intend to establish your residency.

What do I need to provide in order to get this new residence card?
As usual, the applicant will need to fulfil the following requirements:
OPTION A: Being a pensioner (in Spain, UK or somewhere else).
OPTION B: Being a worker in Spain.
OPTION C: If none of the situations above. Basically, if you are not working in Spain and you are not a pensioner, you need to provide 2 things:
What about my family members?
Family members of a British national with a current EU Registration Certificate in Spain:
If you are a relative of a British citizen with an EU Registration Certificate in Spain and/or you have reached 5 years of legal residence, you can personally process the issuance of your new card directly at the dependency of your nearest National Police office.
Family members of a British national without an EU Registration Certificate in Spain:
In case you have a family relationship with a British citizen and you do not have a EU citizens’ family card, you can submit the application for this residence document, personally or through a representative, at the corresponding immigration office.
Therefore, once your request has been granted, you must go to the police department that is authorized to issue your new card, providing the corresponding documentation and after paying the fees.

What about the current applications (before the 6th of July) that are in process?
As a result, the administrative procedures initiated before July 6, relating to obtaining registration certificates by United Kingdom nationals and residence cards of a relative of a citizen of the Union, will be processed and resolved in accordance with the provisions of the Instruction published by the General Directorate of Migrations.
